United Church Dorchester: the 'new normal'

As at 18 October 2021, United Church Dorchester is essentially operating normally again, following further easing of restrictions that were put in place during various stages of the Covid pandemic.

In practical terms, this means that:

The church and church rooms are fully open, though with relevant safeguards in place to keep everyone safe.

Services are being held in the church, with music groups and singing by the congregation. For those still unable to attend services in church, a range of written and on-line options are available.

The church shop and coffee shop are both open, and welcoming customers.

Events and meetings are taking place again: for full details, please visit the relevant pages across the web site.

If you have specific queries about what is happening at UCD, and cannot find the answer here, please contact us.

Coffee Shop: new opening times for 2022

The Coffee Shop has now re-opened after the Christmas / New Year break. It will be open on Tuesday and Friday mornings, from 10.00 - 12.00.

On Wednesday mornings, coffee will be served in the Hall from 9.30 – 12.00, and there will usually be a stall from a local charity in the Hall as well.

Do come and see us!

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

There will be a series of services across Dorchester’s churches for the 2022 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which will take place between 18th-25th January.

For details of the local services, please see the Dorchester Churches Together information sheet. The national Churches Together web site provides further background about the purpose and organisation of the week, as well as additional resources.

Forest Praise

Children, parents and carers are all welcome at Forest Praise, which is holding the first of its monthly sessions in 2022: come along for family-friendly fun, relaxed play and praise.

It will take place on Saturday 29th January, 10.30 - 11.45am, at St George’s, Fordington (opposite Fordington Green) – please see the Events page for more information and contact details.

Pastoral Support Assistant

The United Church Dorchester is looking to appoint someone to work alongside members of the congregation and others, providing pastoral support in a range of forms.

This is a part-time part-time appointment fixed term for 2 years in the first instance. For further details, please see the information on the Jobs and Opportunities page.

Home Start West Dorset

Home Start West Dorset exists to support families with at least one child under five to cope with the difficulties of parenting. Our volunteers spend around two hours each week with a family.

Our long term financial position needs to improve to handle the increased demand. We are therefore asking people to become Friends with a small regular donation. If you would like further information (including details on how to donate) please visit the HSWD web site.

Boys' Brigade and Girls Association

Mark Topps, who is the pastor of the Storehouse church on Cambridge Road, is starting a branch of the Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association in Dorchester.  This is a Christian organisation for children, and well worthy of our support.

Mark wants this to be an ecumenical venture affiliated to Churches Together in Dorchester, and would welcome anyone who is interested in helping (to contact Mark, please do it via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).  He is starting with the youngest age group until he gets more help, and families with children aged 5-8 are invited to take them along on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 7pm to the Boys’ Brigade Hall, Sawmills Lane, Dorchester, next to the YMCA and opposite the cricket field (near Tesco).
