Access to United Church Dorchester Due to the Fire in South Street, it is currently only possible to enter United Church Dorchester from the Coffee #1 end of South Street, or preferably via our Charles Street entrance opposite the Library. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the Gorge’s building fire, especially the owners.
Churches Together Dorchester is organising a series of services and events for the 2025 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which will take place between 18th-25th January. The progamme is available here - you’re welcome to worship at any of these venues across the week. Each day explores a particular aspect of the overall theme, which this year is ‘Do you believe this?’. Services, with the exception of the opening and closing, will generally be brief. Services have been arranged for a variety of times to enable you to come when it is most convenient. The national Churches Together web site provides further background about the purpose and organisation of the week, as well as additional resources.
As winter approaches, Dorchester Poverty Action reports that many more people in DT1 and DT2 are struggling with their finances for a variety of different reasons - some work-related, others due to difficult family situations. Dorchester Poverty Action makes grants of up to £200 to local people who have hit a financial crisis and who need financial support to make their lives more bearable. Request for grants have recently increased hugely: over £60,000 was distributed in 2022/2023, and this level of demand is continuing. DPA depends on the generosity of local people: please consider if you are one of these good people and make a donation by visiting the website.
The Dorchester Town Chaplaincy team wants to recruit more people who can offer support and encouragement for shop workers, market traders, shoppers and anybody working in the town of Dorchester. The team is drawn from members of local churches. Each week chaplains visit the town centre. It is an initiative of Churches Together in Dorchester, backed by Dorchester BID and Dorchester Town Council. See the Dorchester Chaplains information sheet for more information, including the possibility of joining an introductory training session.
It is now some time since Traidcraft went into administration. However, a limited number of their own brand products have been re-launched by Transform Trade, including tea bags, greetings cards and toilet rolls. The United Church remains committed to Fair Trade, and we continue to use Fair Trade tea and coffee at church events. The Church shop stocks many Fair Trade items, including Divine chocolate, cocoa, coffee, peanut butter, honey, Fair Trade cards and gifts. Thank you for your support.
